Hey, ya’ll! I’m just popping in to let you in on a surprise: I’m a guest on a podcast this week! The dope team over at Cinema Bun Podcast invited me to review Disney’s latest animated feature film, Moana. I was more geeked than I should’ve been to go see a kids’ movie.
I discuss my official opinion of the show more on the podcast, but I just wanted tell ya’ll a few things I didn’t get into with Cinema Bun.
1. Lin-Manuel Miranda has the Midas touch.
I haven’t seen Hamilton or heard the soundtrack. (I know, I know, I’m LATE!) But judging by Miranda’s work on Moana, I think I’m going to love everything this guy touches. He’s an intelligent songwriter. I say that to mean I appreciate both his pen game and ear for meter. Not even a week after first seeing the movie, I’m already singing the songs around the house with Bean and Button. Along with RZA, Pharell/The Neptunes, Solange, and Raphael Saadiq, Miranda joins a diverse, talented group of young POC making moves producing film scores.
2. I’m so here for Dwayne Johnson, The Actor, on Moana!
Can I just give a slow clap for the trajectory of The Rock’s acting career? From his turn on Ballers to decent singing and voice acting on Moana, I no longer avoid watching things he’s starring in. I think I much prefer it when he’s not in action movies or physical comedies. I don’t know if we’re beyond The Tooth Fairy roles yet. But he made me laugh in the Disney film with his snark and I felt he was perfect in the role.
3. Ya’ll have to tell me how you liked the episode…
Confession: I’m not a huge fan of hearing my own recorded voice. It makes me cringe. I sound like a pre-pubescent boy, and not at all like the super-tall, self-assured person I pretend to be online. LOL! I won’t be mad if ya’ll tell me I do indeed sound like your kid cousin.
The beginning of the podcast features Bean (the four-year-old’s) kid review of Moana. It was nice of them to include her! She loves to get in on any conversation I’m having. Please do follow Cinema Bun’s account, or Berook and Tonja on Twitter and share the ‘cast on social media. You also can give Cinema Bun that glowing five-star rating on iTunes or Stitcher.
I’ll holla at you later!
Let me know if you saw Moana and what you thought about it!
